Climate

The climate of Thailand is actually very similar to Singapore. Thailand has a tropical monsoon climate. The annual temperature range is from a low of 19 degrees Celsius to a high of 38 degrees Celsius! The Southwest monsoons arrive between May and July and  will last until October. For Singapore, we are affected by the Northeast monsoons which will last from November until February. During this period of time, it is exactly the opposite for Thailand, Thailand will experience the dry season during November and December. In January, the temperature will begin to rise. The dry season is shortest in the South. That is because of the proximity of the sea to all parts of the Malay Peninsula. On the other hand , the dry season is the longest in the Northeast.

The climate of Thailand have very close relationship with the rice-growing season. During the wet season, from July onwards, farmers begin to grow rice. Like Singapore, Thailand do not experience the four seasons, but the annual temperature range of Thailand is greater than Singapore. In Thailand, temperatures as low as 19 degrees Celsius could be felt. In Singapore, the lowest it can go is about 23 degrees. Although Thailand is a tropical country, in recent months, I have read newspaper articles of temperatures in Thailand dipping as low as under 10 degrees Celsius! During this period of unexpected cold weather, many people have froze to death, especially the older and poorer ones who could not afford to but thicker clothing.
