In the early
19th century, Thailand was known as Siam. For many centuries, Southeast
Asian countries had no clearly defined boundaries between them, this led
to war. Incursions made on each other's territories resulted in social and
political upheaval. New kingdoms were made, of these, there was the Chakri
Dynasty of Siam. Of the Southeast Asian states succumbed to Western
pressure, only Siam remained free. Thailand (Siam) was never colonized.
The founder of the present reigning dynasty in Thailand was King Rama I. |
